Dating the age of tires
This one would have blown the tread off soon had it not been removed. Unfortunately, good tread is no guarantee of a safe tire.
To help identify the age of your tyres, each one is imprinted with a coded date which tells you when that tyre was manufactured.
However the date code is (usually) only found on one side of the tire.

From the year 2000 on, the date code has been 4 digits, the first two are the week of manufacture and the second two digits are the year of manufacture.
For instance 2407 would signify the 24th week of 2007.
Not only is the date code missing, but the last three digits are gone too.
This is actually pretty common, but more tires would have all 7 digits on the other side but not the date code.
Below are several examples showing how to check the date code and what happens when the tires get too old.
